Shankar-Jaikishnan -the melody kings

For the better part of two decades ,the name Shankar-Jaikishan was synonymous with hit film music.Ever since the prodigal duo blazed their way in to the film music fitment with `Barsaat',they set a number of trends.

Shakar-Jaikishan were the first music directors to go for orchestration in a big way and to their creativity...asin `Ghar aaya mere pardesi' from `Awara' .Their music ,which changed strikingly in style from the fifties to the sixties ,never failed to make waves and the immortal `Awaaraahoon' is still hummed in the bylanes of India-and Russia nearly 55 years of it`s creation.

In the sixties, thanks to SJ,the Music Director ,became the most important person in a film,All those town romances ran mainly because of their melodies, which also contributed significantly to the popularity of stars like Shammi Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar. What is more,an impressive number of the more mediocre piggy -backed their way to success, using the SJ magic as their vehicle.

Un questionably among the most versatile music directors to ever have composed music for films ,SJ were equally at ease with the soulful ,the jazzy and the classical.

Even after five decades .their era is over, but so tremendous has been their influence, that even to day we have any number of new composers trying to ape their style. The ghosts of SJ melodies still loom large on the film music horizon.
